Get to Know Rusty Robertson - Owner

In 1998, I was selling over a million dollars worth of insulation and siding across three counties when the national company that bought us out decided they didn't want the siding business anymore. I thought I was looking at a career reset at 30-something years old. That's when everything changed.

A builder I'd worked with for years, Mr. England, called me up. "Rusty," he said, "how'd you like to come work for me as a site superintendent? And if things go well, maybe I'll help you start your own company."

I'd been in construction since I was a teenager, starting with my uncle's crew in the '80s doing everything from trash cleanup to framing entire houses. I'd installed insulation, gutters, garage doors, you name it. Got my Class A contractor's license back in the early '90s. But building custom homes? That was the dream I'd been chasing without really admitting it.

Mr. England didn't just give me a job. He became my mentor, teaching me the custom home market from the ground up. In 2000, we launched Robertson Custom Homes with me project managing his builds while also taking on spec homes and custom projects under my own name.

For six years, I learned everything I could about what it takes to build homes that last. Not just the technical side, I already had that down. But the client side. How to listen to what people really want, not just what they think they want. How to guide them through decisions they've never had to make before. How to build trust when you're asking someone to invest their life savings in your vision of their dream.

When Mr. England decided to retire in 2006, I was ready. We're still friends today, and I owe him more than I could ever repay for believing in me. Thirty-five years in this industry has taught me that the hardest part isn't learning how to build. It's finding the right people who care as much as you do.

I've spent years building a team that won't cut corners, won't leave problems for tomorrow, and won't walk away from a job until it's done right. My clients tell me we're easy to reach, quick to adapt when they want changes, and not afraid to speak up when we see potential problems. That's exactly what I want to hear, because I'm not here to just build houses. I'm here to work with you to design and build your vision.

After hours, you'll find me with my family or out on the golf course. But Monday morning, I'm back doing what I love most, turning your ideas into the home you'll live in for decades.

Get to Know Barrett Wright - Project Manager

Barrett has been running our job sites for five years, bringing fifteen years of construction experience to every project. He's the guy you'll meet at your pre-construction meeting and see every single day until we hand you the keys. Barrett handles everything from scheduling trades to sourcing materials, but what clients tell us they value most is how he communicates.

He sends weekly updates with photos so you always know exactly where things stand, and he's got a knack for explaining construction decisions in plain English. When problems come up (and they always do), Barrett's the one finding solutions before they become your headache. Outside of work, he's busy with his four boys, hunting and fishing when he can get away, and staying active in his church. That same steady presence he brings to family and community shows up on your job site every day.
